Day 2 — Rain on Swanston, Ground Taken in Bulk
Monday, 13th April 2026
The morning in Carlton has that rinsed look it gets after light drizzle: plane trees dripping lazily, tram rails holding a dull sheen, students queuing for coffee under awnings as if the city had spent the night doing nothing more consequential than turning over in its sleep. But yesterday the inner suburbs were loud with movement. The new cell, [RUST], did not merely survive its second day in the Victorian theatre. It expanded violently.
From 16 holdings to 56 in a single reporting window is the sort of growth that changes how a faction is read on the map. Not settled power, not yet, but no longer a novelty either. [RUST] posted 84 successful hostile actions across the day, absorbing 45 losses in return, and in the process forced itself into the central and northern conversation. Melbourne proper gave them the biggest haul, the north gave them shape, and by dawn they had something resembling a front rather than a scattering of ambitions.
As on the first day, 🚢RustPanther did the heavy lifting, and paid the blood price for it. They finished with 32 holdings, up 29, on a bruising ledger of 61 steals against 33 losses. Most of that fight ran through the central city, where they made 42 steals and lost 25 in reply. Swanston Street and La Trobe remain what they were yesterday: exposed positions, impossible to hold for long, every box a forward post under immediate observation. ☎️Phone #2118 at Melbourne Central changed hands five times; ☎️Phone #9739 on La Trobe changed hands four. These are not phones so much as pieces of contested pavement. 🚢RustPanther also found the one unclaimed opening of the day, a lone capture amid a theatre otherwise dominated by theft and reprisals.
If 🚢RustPanther fought the city as a war of attrition, 🎶RustShark helped give the campaign its geography. Their 19 steals and 12 losses translated into a net gain of seven holdings, with the most useful work done in Carlton, Fitzroy and Collingwood. Carlton was especially busy: eight steals there from 🎶RustShark, alongside 13 from 🚢RustPanther and another three from 💚RustHornet. That matters because Carlton is not just another suburb on the tally sheet. It is the hinge between the CBD churn and the more breathable northern streets. Hold there and the cell’s northern salient can be supplied. Lose it and the whole line starts to feel improvised.
💚RustHornet, quiet on the opening day, entered the picture properly here. Four steals, no losses, and a modest but clean contribution: three in Carlton, one in Coburg. In a war full of frantic exchanges, there is something to be said for an operative who touches the line and leaves it stronger.
The principal enemy remained [SQWA], and specifically 🥜BinaryPrism, who looks more and more like a weather system moving over the map. They launched 56 steals across the day, 40 of them against [RUST]. In Melbourne they hit hard; in Carlton they hit harder. Yet their own losses were punishing — 89 overall, 45 in the city alone. This is becoming their pattern: pressure without delicacy, mass without permanence. They can still spoil a position, still drag a suburb into chaos, but yesterday they shed ground faster than they could bless it with their flag. 🤠SolarBeacon made a smaller hostile incursion in the CBD, four steals against [RUST]; 🥲StarkFury appeared briefly in Carlton, more nuisance than campaign.
Elsewhere, the state fought its own wars. Highton was a slaughterhouse of reversals, with ☎️Phone #11390 changing hands eight times and ☎️Phone #2291 five, but that was another theatre, another kind of misery.
STRATEGIC OUTLOOK
This was an undeniably strong day for [RUST]. The cell is expanding in the centre, expanding north, and beginning to link its holdings into something coherent. But the cost remains high, especially wherever the line touches the CBD. 🚢RustPanther is carrying an immense operational load, and while the gains justify it for now, wars built around one operative’s stamina have a way of turning brittle. The encouraging sign is that 🎶RustShark continues to secure the northern neighbourhoods, and 💚RustHornet has begun contributing disciplined support. If they can consolidate Carlton and keep Collingwood-Fitzroy from being peeled back, this new faction may soon become a standing fact of the Victorian theatre rather than its freshest disturbance.
